Introduction

Peter Schroeder

Private and group Music Instructor | North Shore

Peter is a non-traditional piano instructor with over 30 years of experience in piano performance and music instruction. For 18 years, he taught private in-home piano lessons to 31 students a week in West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Peter's students are motivated to practice and learn music, some as part of their musical exploration and growth, others as their enjoyment and chosen outlet to fulfill their 5-strand program at Collingwood and Mulgrave private schools in West Vancouver. Others have achieved their musical goals as multi-instrumentalists and were accepted into top performance bands, for example, the prestigious TD Canada Jazz Festival band and local school honour performance bands, later going on to complete their degree in music and become professional Canadian songwriters and performers. Others competed in Canadian-wide songwriting, singing, and music contests.

Peter uses his qualifications and experience to teach people of all ages. He holds a Diploma from Grant Mceuwan College in Jazz & Contemporary Music, five and a half years of post-secondary education in music (classical, jazz, and contemporary), is a Certified NCCP coach, and is a certified instructor for Music for Young Children, Kinder Music, and Bumblebee Music. Peter is the current administrator for the Music Therapy Association of British Columbia (MTABC) and is a Film and Television Agent with Rising Star Management. He trained on how to teach voice with Juno award-winning artist, Angela Kelman (Farmers Daughter). Peter continues to mentor and influence students of all ages, locally and abroad.

"I teach the music that the student wants to learn on piano, guitar, and vocals. I incorporate songwriting and production as a means to create value, increasingly improving the students ' motivation and self-esteem."

Peters' clients grow from 0 to 110%, as fast as possible, while learning proper technique, musical foundations, confidence, and real-world skills. Peter also offers Artist Development, a Performer & Producer Program and Artist Breakthrough Package lessons, where the focus is on songwriting, collaboration, stage presence, production, and marketing.

Peter is a non-traditional piano instructor... While Classical is a style that Peter respects, plays, and teaches at a high level, he prioritizes the music that motivates the student. YouTube hits, Pop, Jazz, Rock, funk, Hip Hop, Latin, Worship, Folk and Classical are genres his clients request to learn daily.

"Peter is a gentleman musician and teacher. With enthusiasm he was able to keep my children into music through all their «teen years». By adapting the lessons to their interest we were able to improve their skills, making them sing, play different instruments and even compose some songs. I strongly recommend Peter as a music teacher".

Discover what our clients say about Lessons Created by Peter Schroeder

"Our son participated in a week long Rock Band Camp and loved it! He was just 9 years old at the time and only a beginner with the drums. The transformation we saw in him at week’s end was phenomenal. Not only did he consolidate his basic skills as a drummer but he also learned that being in a band requires practice, compromise and collaboration. The experience gave him context for the individual instruments and taught him how they all work together to achieve a common goal. Our son is looking forward to participating in the Rock Band Camp again and now practices daily with a keen sense that he has important part in the band—it seems that not wanting to let your band mates down is a powerful motivator!” - Kelly Linn

"My daughter started singing and guitar lessons with Peter a few months ago and she has learned more in this short time than she has in 3 years. Peter is not only extremely talented but he is also very organized, professional, and his enthusiasm is contagious. Most importantly, my daughter is really enjoying her lessons with Peter and feels very comfortable with him." - Tracey Wade

"Our girls were so burned out by conventional piano lessons that we gave up. Until we found Peter Schroeder! He has a way of connecting with the girls and bringing music that is relevant to them into their lessons. Now they look forward to their music lessons and even more importantly, no more fighting to get them to practice. Peter is a creative, enthusiastic, patient teacher and we are very lucky to have found him." - Rhonda Bacon

"Both my daughter and I took piano lessons from Peter for about three years. We both appreciated Peter's personalized approach to teaching piano and music to each of us. He really tries to identify what you want to get out of the lessons and will cater his style to meet your needs. Peter is very talented and flexible not only with his approach, but also with accommodating changing schedules and the busy lifestyles we all lead. I always found Peter to be patient, straight forward, reliable and professional in all of our dealings." - Sarah Samphire

"Harry had a wonderful experience last summer – great fun and he learned a lot. Peter is a first rate teacher and we were very impressed with what the kids learned in one short week – as evidenced by their final performance. Harry has been inspired to learn the bass guitar as a direct result of his band camp adventure, and he can’t wait for this year’s camp." - Amanda Farrell

Understanding Casting Outcomes

Booking roles in film and television depends on a combination of factors, including:

  • *Professional and up-to-date headshots that reflect your current look.

  • Acting training, demo reels, and performance clips.

  • Professional résumé and casting profiles (e.g., Casting Networks, Actors Access, Casting Workbook).

  • Active representation or management through a licensed agency.

  • Casting directors’ creative vision and project requirements.

  • Union status, availability, and production logistics.

  • Timing, competition, and current industry demand.

In short, a booking requires alignment of professional materials, training, timing, and opportunity.

Your headshot helps you get noticed — it’s the first impression, not a guarantee of casting success. Keep Reading...

1. Factors That Must Align to Get Booked in a Production

Casting is highly competitive. A headshot is critical, but many other variables influence whether someone actually books a role. Here’s a comprehensive list:

Personal Presentation

  • #1. Professional, accurate headshots that represent your current look.

  • Updated demo reel or performance clips.

  • Complete and polished resume (credits, training, special skills).

  • Clear online profiles on Casting Networks, Actors Access, Casting Workbook, etc.

  • Strong social media presence (sometimes casting checks).

Agent / Representation

  • Having an agent or manager with strong casting director connections.

  • Clear communication with your rep about the types of roles you’re right for.

  • The agent is actively submitting you to relevant breakdowns.

  • Having a licensed agency can assist you in submissions. At VizBrin, we focus exclusively on your marketing materials and brand readiness..

Casting Director Factors

  • The casting director’s vision for the role.

  • Whether your look matches the character breakdown.

  • Prior relationship with casting (trust in your work).

  • Quality of your audition (in-person or self-tape).

  • Reliability and professionalism (past impressions).

Production Factors

  • Script requirements (ethnicity, age, gender, accent, physicality).

  • Union vs. non-union status (ACTRA, SAG-AFTRA).

  • Budget constraints (some productions prioritize local hires to save travel costs).

  • Director and producer preferences (sometimes a "feel" decision).

  • Chemistry with other actors already cast.

  • Passport must not expire within a year of production (If travel required)

Training & Skills

  • Acting training (theatre, film, improv, method, on-camera).

  • Ability to take direction and adjust quickly in auditions.

  • Special skills (sports, instruments, stunts, languages).

  • Voice quality for certain roles (commercials, voiceover).

Timing & Market Conditions

  • Current industry demand (what types of characters are trending).

  • Availability of roles for your specific age range/type.

  • Competition in your category (number of submissions for the role).

  • Scheduling conflicts (being available during filming dates).

In short: A booking = (professional materials + rep + right look +

right timing + strong audition + casting/production alignment).

**Your headshot is the entry ticket — without it, you won’t even get in the room.
